This is the second book that rigorously documents the artistic processes of the making of one art work using the Studio Activity Sheets SASs (Watts 2010). The artwork is the performance Not a Decorator…(Watts 2017) and it documents the processes over a nine month period.
It is unique in revealing a close-up, chronological view of the formation of a specific art work from the perspective of the artist. Much literature about artistic process collects information through an interview, via an interviewer, conducted away from the making. This documentation in this book occurs in the immersion of the making, notated by the author/ artist and documents the making of one art work in a chronological order.
Emma Cocker and Sarah Gorman who watched the art develop have both written essays. It is also introduced with a transcription of a conversation between Lisa Watts and Rebecca Fortnum.
The research in this book encourages other disciplines, both within the arts and outside, to understand the aspects of an artist’s practice, as it unwraps artistic processes and their documentation for trans-interdisciplinary research.
